Is 5ms Response Time Good For Gaming

Is 5ms Response time good for gaming

This debate has been going on for a long time now is 5 ms response time good for gaming. Should you go with the monitor with 5 ms response time or you should choose other options with lower response time. We will discuss various aspects by which you can decide whether 5 minute second response time is good for gaming or not.

Understanding Response time

In simple words, response time is nothing but time taken by pixels to change colors. Show the lower the response time is the faster the pixels will change color and the better will be the quality.

Most gamers want 1ms response time as it is the lowest and the fastest, but does that fast really matter is it really noticeable to our eyes and how does it really affect our gaming experience.

Ideally, a 5ms response time is good enough for gaming and anything lower than that is even great and 5ms has now become a gaming standard. Unless you do not want an ultra-smooth image quality that barely makes a difference you can stick with your 5ms game monitor.

Well, there are a lot of factors that mix with response time and really do make a difference.

Balance Between Refresh Rate and Response Time

Well, people often confuse between refresh rate and response time, while we have already told you what is response time, refresh rate is the number of times your screen refreshes per second. It is measured in hertz so if your monitor has a 60Hz refresh rate it simply means the screen refreshes itself 60 times in a second.

So just having a higher refresh rate or a lower response time is not enough. Having a lower response time but with a refresh rate of only 60 Hz is of no use. Also, a higher refresh rate with a high response time is also a bad combination. So you need to find a sweet spot such as a 75Hz refresh rate and a 3ms, 5ms response time.

Panel Types

Different panels are capable of handling the response time differently. Now TN panels are the best when it comes to the lowest response time. In most cases when you look for a 1ms response time you will get a TN panel.  When it comes to IPS and VA panels you will see that they mostly have a response time of 2ms or 5ms and rarely 1ms. TN panels are the fastest in processing pixels but there is a drawback here. TN panels are not great when it comes to viewing angles and color contrast. This is the reason TN panels are mostly cheap and as the response time decreases with increasing screen quality the price of the monitor also increases.

Games You Play

when choosing a gaming monitor, the response time you are going to choose should largely depend on what type of games you play.

If you are just a casual gamer a monitor with a 5ms refresh rate will be good for you and you may not experience any problems. Even if you mostly play RPG or racing games then a 5ms response time is very good and will not make a significant impact on your gaming experience.

Well if you are an FPS lover or someone who is into online competitive gaming then you will need to go for the lowest response time available. It will give you a much more smooth and experience but at the same time, it will come at a greater cost. If you are tight on budget of 5ms gaming monitor can also do good for you because it does not affects your reflexes in any way.

Tell us in the comments what do you think about response time and what do you prefer for gaming.

Is 240 GB SSD Enough For Gaming – What Else to Consider

Is 240 GB SSD enough for gaming

Are you building a gaming pc or you are going to buy a gaming laptop and you thinking is 240 GB SSD is enough for gaming or not.

Well, when it comes to SSD they are costlier but more than ten times faster than a hard disk drive. When it comes to speed HDDs cannot beat them as SSD do not have any moving parts.

But speed is not the only thing you need to look for before you buy an SSD for gaming. We have discussed various factors you need to consider before you come to a decision.

Usage (Normal or Only Gaming)

The first factor is usage, even if you buy a 240 GB SSD you will not get all of it for playing games. Firstly you will have to leave some space which is almost 60GB so that your PC or laptop work smoothly apart from that you also have to leave space for your games to function properly. So only having a 240 GB SSD is not a good idea.

Also if you are planning to use the laptop for other purposes then 240 GB is certainly not enough. Because most of the basic software will eat up the space you have and do not think of having multimedia such as movies along with games.

Also Read: Are Gaming Laptops Good for Daily Usage

Number of Games

number of games you want

The second most important factor is the number of games you want to have. If we consider that you only have 240 GB SSD then you will be able to keep only one or two large games. Most of the large games need at least 20 GB of free space to run smoothly.

So practically speaking if you want 3rd game then you will have to delete one of the two games. And reinstalling games several times is not something you would love to do.

In another scenario, you can have a bunch of small games but not too many. You can have at least 5 to 7 games assuming that each game takes up almost 15 GB of space. In this case, you cannot have a bigger game on your PC and in order to have one, you will have to sacrifice other games.

Other Options to Consider

From above you can see that only having 240 GB SSD for gaming does no good. But if you do want to get an SSD then it is better to go with a combination of SSD and HDD. By doing this you will solve both the problems of speed and have enough storage at the same time.

Read More: About 512GB SSD and its use in gaming

The best solution to this problem is a 1TB SSD but considering that you are on a budget you can go with a combination of SSD and HDD.

The best combination you can have is 240 GB SSD and 1TB HDD. SSD will make your system smooth to operate and with a 1TB HDD, you will now not be concerned about storage.  Now you can Store 6-7 big games or a combination of big and small games.

A faster HDD

If you are very tight on budget then it is better to go with the faster HDD.  You can consider getting a 1 TB HDD with RPM above 7500.

It might not be as fast as SSD you will not encounter any storage problems and you will be able to explore new games without deleting the old ones. Also, it will give you space for other software and multimedia.

Hope we have helped you to some extent now you will be able to make a wise decision on whether to go with the SSD or a combination of SSD and HDD. Tell us in the comments what do you think.

play any high end game on low end pc

Want to play a game desperately? But your hardware doesn’t support it. You are not the only one to face this problem. Upgrading your hardware is not always feasible especially if you only want to do casual gaming.

There are some ways by which you can play games on your low-end PC. But you will need to keep in mind that you may not get the same or good quality but this is the sacrifice you do to play games on a low-end PC.  So without wasting any more time let’s start with our list.

play any high end game on low end pc

Use Nvidia Geforce Now/ Stream games online

nvidia geforce now

One of the easiest ways to play any game you want is to stream them online. The only good thing you will need is a fast internet connection with at least 8 Mbps(1 MB/s) of speed.

There are many cloud gaming service providers such as paperspace, snoost, or Nvidia GeForce now. They are paid but their subscription fee is minimal. Also, they provide free gaming hours and free trials.

We recommend you to go with Nvidia GeForce now, it is one of the most popular cloud gaming services now. The free membership comes with 1 hour of free gaming. They have a very vast variety of games to choose from. Not only in a low-end device you can also play any PC game on a smartphone.

Once you are used to cloud gaming then you can choose a paid plan so there is no limit to the time you are playing. Ge force Now has a subscription plan as low as 10 dollars a month and the games they offer are worth it. Also, cloud gaming is now being considered the future of gaming. This is the best way to play high-end games on any platform without any high-end GPU installation.

Use Compressed Versions of the Game

There are a lot of ways by which you can get compressed versions of any game. A compressed version of a game takes less space and runs on low graphics. Compress versions are not made by the original developers and are the cracked versions of the games so they are not legal.

There are many sites and YouTube channels that provide compressed versions of different games. You just need to make sure that the games you are downloading are safe to play and are free of any malware or viruses so it is always better to scan them before using them. There are always some limitations while you play but most of them are not so significant. Also, they are great if you lack space to have large games.

Play Patched Games

used patched games

Again there are many websites such as Ragnos1997 which will provide you patched versions of many games. They tweak into the software and force the game to run in low graphics.

You will be surprised to see how those high-end games can run so smoothly on such a low-end computer. Obviously, the quality will be average or below but you will be able to play them smoothly and without lag.

You will get most of them for free on their websites and you should definitely try these tools if you have an old pc. The tools are easy to use and have a user-friendly interface.

Lower Down Game Settings

This is one of the most obvious methods but it works. If your PC is not that old and is capable enough to handle games on low settings. Then you should consider playing them on low settings if the quality is not the problem for you.

lower down graphics

You should play on the lowest settings possible so that the game works smoothly. Also, make sure that no unnecessary programs are running in the background. There are heating issues while playing games you can take steps for efficient cooling. Without upgrading your hardware lowering down game settings is one of the only legit ways to run those games on your pc.

Overclock Your Hardware

Overclocking is basically increasing the speed of your processor. If a game requires 3.5 GHz and your processor is only 3.4 GHz then overclocking can help you to add that 0.1 GHz.
In simple words, it is increasing the clock speed of a processor which was set by the manufacturer.

You do not need to overclock if you already have a good processor. But for low-end pcs overclocking can make it possible to play some of the games which were not earlier in your basket.

Overclocking might seem very exciting at the first but it does not come without its disadvantages. A processor will generate a lot of heat after it has been overclocked. It is also not good for your processor in the long run as it may decrease the overall life of your processor.

Use an External GPU

You can invest in an external GPU. Your computer or your laptop cannot handle games you can buy an external GPU that can run games for you. They do not usually cost much and can help you run a large variety of games on your low-end PC.

So if you don’t want to change your laptop or PC entirely you can just buy an external GPU. They not awesome unless you are buying a very expensive one. But you will be satisfied if you are a casual gamer or someone who has a low-end PC.

Play Old Legendary Games

If you are unable to use any of the solutions provided above. Then no problem there are still games you can enjoy on a low-end PC. You can play some of the legendary old titles that do not require a high-grade CPU or GPU.

The graphics and the quality might not match the standards of modern games but that does not mean they are not fun to play. You can get a list of games for low-end PC here. They are some of the great games of old times.
